In older persons with cancer, malnutrition is a common and under-diagnosed geriatric disease. This review discusses the impact of malnutrition on public health, how to prevent it, and how cancer cachexia, malnutrition, and sarcopenia are related. Finally, clinical practice suggestions for preventing malnutrition are provided. Furthermore, longer hospital stays, higher hospital costs, and hospital readmission are all independently linked to malnutrition along with poor overall survival and quality of life, as well as longer hospital stays. In summary, To improve the nutritional condition of elderly cancer patients, comprehensive malnutrition prevention is necessary.
