Rugut (2022)

ree
Malnutrition is an ongoing problem across the world, but because it is more prevalent as individuals age and lose their independence and mental capacity, it affects older people more severely. This study intends to understand the causes and consequences of malnutrition among the older population as well as nursing interventions for malnutrition, guided by the research question, “What is the role of nurses in the management and prevention of malnutrition?”. The findings indicated that identifying malnutrition is the most important step in its intervention and prevention. In order to identify those who are at risk of malnutrition early on, nurses must be educated in nutritional screening tools. Although nurses play a critical role in the management and prevention of malnutrition, the elderly need to be educated as well through education and counseling. It is advised that further study be done on nurses' understanding of nutritional screening instruments and their education to make sure they keep current with nutritional treatments put into practice.
